Fast Facts from the 2018 Inaugural Event
Who is the being supported with the money raised: Last year SAHSSI provided 33,165 safe bed nights for women and children in the Illawarra in either crisis accommodation or medium term housing. Our waitlists for accommodation are always full! There is simply not enough affordable housing. SAHSSI have a 3 year goal of raising funds to increase accommodation options for the women we support. This event is helping us reach our goal.
Funds raised in inaugural year (2018): More than $17,000.
Participants in inaugural year: 41, aged from 11 to 55 (average age 34 and 50/50 male to female split)
Who can take part: Anyone and everyone who wants to challenge themselves while raising funds for a good cause. This year if you are entering a team for fun, not all team members have to complete every lap – this year you can relay this with team members taking turns.
Last year we had some great involvement from school children who took up the challenge as part of Homelessness projects they were doing and ended up winning the event (and not breaking a sweat)! The winner won a trip for two from Albion Park to Melbourne.
